Infant/Child CPR, Choking + Injury Prevention Workshops

A note to our students:

MAY 2022: We are keeping our mask policy for the time being – both students and instructors will be required to wear masks in the class. We will continue to evaluate the recommendations and consult with our venues, and may make changes to our policies in the future.

We will still be maintaining distance between households/groups in all of our public classes, and individual equipment for each participant to avoid unnecessary contact between household bubbles.

We thank you for your patience and continued cooperation in helping us keep our workshops a safe place to learn.

We can absolutely do that! Send us an email following the workshop – we will verify your attendance in our system and provide you with a PDF proof of participation via email. Anytime is great, really! We have a big mix of caregivers in our classes – expecting parents anywhere from 16 weeks to 40 weeks, parents with new babies, grandparents and other family members, and parents with toddlers who want a refresher or are learning for the first time!

There are pros and cons to joining a class while expecting:

  • If you join us while you’re expecting, most find it easier to focus on the content because they don’t have a baby with them (we allow pre-mobile babies in our classes).
  • The physical skills can be a bit more challenging if you’re pregnant (CPR, getting down to the ground to check for breathing, etc). We never push anyone to do something that’s physically strenuous, of course; so that’s why we do have a significant amount of pregnant attendees who are 37+ weeks.
  • If you’re pregnant, we recommend taking the class it before 34 weeks (if possible!) for comfort purposes, though, if you’re able to get into a class with space. We do recommend taking it while expecting, because the skills are relevant from birth.

In most cases, no, you will likely need a more in-depth course.

  • If you’re working in a licensed child care facility: You would need the 8-hour Emergency Childcare First Aid course per the Ministry of Children and Family Development’s guidelines.
  • If you’re operating as a nanny for a family: check with the family before you register to see if this workshop is appropriate. We often have nannies and other caregivers take our 5-hour course.
