Infant/Child CPR, Choking + Injury Prevention

Our most popular workshop –we’ll give you the confidence to react in an emergency with your family with essential lifesaving skills; along with the knowledge to prevent needing to use them in the first place.

This workshop is perfect for anyone who cares for children but does not require a first aid/CPR certificate, including:

  • new or expecting parents,
  • seasoned parents,
  • grandparents,
  • family members and other caregivers

All our workshops are led by highly experienced Red Cross instructors (and we’re all parents, too!)
"the best first aid course we have ever taken"
My wife, I and my daughter all took the Infant/Child CPR, Choking and Injury Prevention Workshop, and it was the best first aid course we have ever taken. We all felt better and ready to deal with just about any emergency that may happen. The teacher was the easiest person in the world to understand and the curriculum is made for normal people. I have taken Red Cross classes before and this short workshop blew anything I have taken before doors off. Thank you so much Safe Beginnings, I will be telling everyone how great you are.

Anytime is great, really! We have a big mix of caregivers in our classes – expecting parents anywhere from 16 weeks to 40 weeks, parents with new babies, grandparents and other family members, and parents with toddlers who want a refresher or are learning for the first time! There are pros and cons to joining a class while expecting:
    • If you join us while you’re expecting, most find it easier to focus on the content because they don’t have a baby with them (we allow pre-mobile babies in our classes).
    • The physical skills can be a bit more challenging if you’re pregnant (CPR, getting down to the ground to check for breathing, etc). We never push anyone to do something that’s physically strenuous, of course; so that’s why we do have a significant amount of pregnant attendees who are 37+ weeks.
    • If you’re pregnant, we recommend taking the class it before 34 weeks (if possible!) for comfort purposes, though, if you’re able to get into a class with space. We do recommend taking it while expecting, because the skills are relevant from birth.
    • If you’re working in a licensed child care facility: You would need the 8-hour Emergency Childcare First Aid course per the Ministry of Children and Family Development’s guidelines.
    • If you’re operating as a nanny for a family: check with the family before you register to see if this workshop is appropriate. We often have nannies and other caregivers take our 5-hour course.
    • Refunds may be requested if notice is given 48 hours or more ahead of the workshop/course start time.
    • With notice provided 24-48 hours (or more) ahead of the workshop/course start time, we can offer a transfer to a future workshop/course (given there is still space in the workshop/course the transfer is being requested for) upon request.
    • Out of respect for those who waitlist for our workshops/courses, transfers are not permitted within 24 hours of the workshop/course start time.
    • Any registration for a workshop/course where the attendee does not provide notice is considered forfeited.
