Frequently asked questions

No need! This course includes all the content of the 2-hour workshop PLUS more information. The course curriculum is posted above.

Anytime is great, really! We have a big mix of caregivers in our classes – expecting parents anywhere from 16 weeks to 40 weeks, parents with new babies, grandparents and other family members, and parents with toddlers who want a refresher or are learning for the first time!

There are pros and cons to joining a class while expecting:

  • If you join us while you’re expecting, most find it easier to focus on the content because they don’t have a baby with them (we allow pre-mobile babies in our classes).
  • The physical skills can be a bit more challenging if you’re pregnant (CPR, getting down to the ground to check for breathing, etc). We never push anyone to do something that’s physically strenuous, of course; so that’s why we do have a significant amount of pregnant attendees who are 37+ weeks.
  • If you’re pregnant, we recommend taking the class it before 34 weeks (if possible!) for comfort purposes, though, if you’re able to get into a class with space. We do recommend taking it while expecting, because the skills are relevant from birth.
  • If you’re working in a licensed child care facility: typically not. You would need the 8-hour Emergency Childcare First Aid course per the Ministry of Children and Family Development’s guidelines.
  • If you’re operating as a nanny for a family: check with the family before you register to see if this course is appropriate. We often have nannies and other caregivers take this course.

In most cases, yes! Most doula and babywearing organizations will require a CPR-C/AED certificate as part of your certification. If you are a doula, though, check to see if we are running our doula-specific CPR-C/AED class any time soon, as that course is specifically tailored to the birth and postpartum world (whereas we tailor this one more-so to parents and caregivers). In times when we don’t have an upcoming doula course or an upcoming doula course is already sold out, we frequently have doulas take this course instead.
