Event Details: Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST) Certification
Car Seat Technician (CPST) certification training. Learn how to keep kids safe in car seats, boosters and seat belts.
NOTE: Under current Child Passenger Safety Association of Canada (CPSAC) COVID-19 policies for in-person CPST Training, current case numbers and the instructor having a vulnerable respiratory system, students will be required to wear masks during the course. Masks may be removed during breaks (outdoors, only) but will be required during in-car skills activities, as this will require being inside other student's vehicles and could require more than one technician inside a vehicle at a time. By registering you are acknowledging that you will adhere to these protocols. If you are unable to wear a mask, we invite you to join us when the CPSAC policies are modified in the future. Students are required to perform a health assessment before coming to class each day. Students who fall ill or exhibit symptoms of COVID-19 will be asked to leave class, and will be rescheduled for the next future class in 2021 or 2022.
100% attendance is mandatory for both the classroom and clinic portion. Most students find they need a certain degree of physical dexterity to do this work, though skilled technicians are able to coach parents without ever touching a seat.
This course is perfect for:
- emergency services personnel
- nurses, midwives, and doulas
- family support workers
- baby and child retailers
- child care providers
- community volunteers
Many who take this course find rewarding volunteer opportunities in their community helping parents and caregivers. Some even earn tips!
Successful completion of the course comes with a 3-year certification with the Child Passenger Safety Association of Canada and 3 years of insurance when working as a volunteer (either with other CPSAC volunteers, with another organization, or when volunteering independently). You will receive your course manual and a supply of triplicate check forms.
